Your storage. Your choice. Your backup.

Back up your Mac to S3-compatible storage

CloudChute backs up your Mac to the object storage you choose. Alongside Amazon S3, you can connect S3-compatible storage from providers such as Wasabi, Backblaze B2 and Cloudflare R2, or use your own MinIO server.

Choose the folders you want to protect, run backups automatically or manually, and restore files when you need them. CloudChute keeps a separate off-site backup rather than simply mirroring your Mac.

Step 1 — Create your object storage

Create a bucket and an access key with your provider. Their documentation covers the console steps. Copy the endpoint and region below, then enter those with the keys in CloudChute.

How to create a bucket and access key for each S3-compatible provider
Wasabi

Wasabi

Create a bucket in Wasabi, then follow this guide to create a user and an access key. The guide covers the key, so create the bucket first.

Creating a user account and access key

Endpoint. Use the S3 service URL for your bucket's region, as specified in Wasabi's documentation.

Region. Enter the corresponding region in CloudChute.

Backblaze B2

Backblaze B2

Create a private bucket and an application key for the S3-compatible API. The key ID is the Access Key ID. The application key is the Secret Access Key.

Get started with a Backblaze integration

Endpoint. https://s3.REGION.backblazeb2.com, such as https://s3.us-west-004.backblazeb2.com. It must match your account region.

Region. Your account region, such as us-west-004.

Cloudflare R2

Cloudflare R2

Create a bucket, then create S3 API credentials with Object Read & Write permission, restricted to the bucket where possible. Copy the Access Key ID, Secret Access Key, and S3 endpoint from the confirmation page.

R2 S3 API getting started

Endpoint. https://ACCOUNT_ID.r2.cloudflarestorage.com

Region. auto

MinIO

MinIO

Use your MinIO server endpoint, an access key, and a secret key. The key needs permission to use the bucket.

Endpoint. Enter your MinIO server's S3 API endpoint, not the MinIO Console URL. The address and port depend on your deployment.

Region. Use the region configured for your MinIO server. If no region has been configured, or you don't know which region to use, check your server's configuration or administrator instructions.

Step 2 — Connect CloudChute

CloudChute Settings for an S3 connection

In CloudChute, open Settings. Set Provider to Amazon S3. Wasabi, Backblaze B2, Cloudflare R2, and MinIO use this same connection.

Enter the Subscription email you used to buy CloudChute, then choose Send code. Enter the Code from the email. Mac App Store subscribers can use any valid email address.

Enter the Access Key ID and Secret Access Key from Step 1. Set Region to the value for your provider in the table above, and Bucket to your bucket name. Leave Endpoint empty for Amazon S3. For Wasabi, Backblaze B2, Cloudflare R2, and MinIO, enter the endpoint from that table.

Then choose Connect.

If the connection fails, check that the endpoint and region match your provider, and that your access key has the required bucket permissions.

Important: Providers usually show the secret access key only once. Copy it before you leave that page.

CloudChute is connected to your storage

In the app, choose the folders to back up. CloudChute copies them to your bucket and leaves that copy alone. When the first backup finishes, leave the app running. Earlier versions stay available if you need to restore a file.
